Lessons You Learn As Fashion Interns

Do not get disheartened if your work isn't appreciatedOverthinking why your mentor did not praise you for the data you got him (which actually isn't any rocket science) is a waste of time. You've just started. Realize the fact that there is a long way to go and your mentor is a 1000 times better than you. Every minute you spend in making calls, updating your status, texting people or grabbing a cup of coffee for yourself and your team-mates, your mentor spends a bit more time handling the sales and stock data.

Remember, You Are Important: Remember the fact that your boss is a very busy person and can't afford to lose one minute of their time. So whatever work you do for him/her is a really big help. Although you are made to do some "not so important" yet a time taking work, it really is important for your boss. But never expect a thank you in return because you are here as his/her intern.

Do not be disheartened if you hear your boss say this about you:

Because he does not really mean this for you.

Do not ask too many questions: Asking your mentor too many questions irritates him/her. Make Google your Godfather. That gives you the solution for almost anything you ask for. Though asking questions to do your work well is advised but avoid it as much as you can. Nobody will spoon feed you.

Networking is important: You were lucky enough to land yourself an internship here in this brand now be smart enough to make the best use of it. Be proactive!! When your senior mentions someone who is working at some well known brand, take a note of it. Staying in touch is very important but please do not be selfish while doing this. People who create opportunities for themselves are the ones who are respected. Make time to discuss your career expansions or ambitions with your mentor. His/her advice is worth it!

Your attitude matters: Smiles are always welcome in a place where they are found less. It does make the other person feel relaxed. A good attitude and a proactive nature never go unnoticed but a bad attitude definitely gets noticed. If you are unhappy or struggling then take a short break and get back with full energy. If you do not like the work you do then accept the fact that it is not meant for you.

Most importantly, Internship is the best way to find out what your first job would be like. It is definitely annoying to create spreadsheets and analyse sales and stock data or do competitor analysis all day long but you need to do it as you are learning and you will realize that eventually. There is a productive way and an unproductive way of wasting time. Try using that time to your best.

Lastly, your mentor does like you and so do the other people in that organisation. A bit of ups and downs happen everywhere but never take those things to heart as those are not meant to hurt you. They just want you to learn. Be sure of the fact that they do miss you even in the very little time they have.
